Lamp Makeover

Do You Remember
this bedroom canopy from  The Tea Castle display?

Recently it was being donated to an auction for the
Macomb Charitable Foundation.
I wanted to add a few accessories
to be donated along with the canopy.

A cute girly lamp would be perfect.
Not wanting to spend much, and with a vision in mind,
I headed to the thrift store!

Sometimes you're just lucky what you find...
and lucky I was!

Doesn't look like much but remember,
I had a vision in mind!

A lampshade for .99 cents and it was Pink.
Couldn't ask for better than that!

Can you see the price???
Yep, $2.99
PERFECT...

The lamp got a quick makeover with some cream spray paint!

I searched through my stash for some trim.
Found some pretty trim with pearls on it
and  hot glued the trim to the lampshade.

I added some pretty shimmer tulle and a BIG bow to the shade.
Gotta love a glue gun, it makes things so quick & easy!

A little green and pink paint was added to the lamp.

And Here It Is....
My $3.98 Lamp transformation!

It was the perfect touch for the auction....

A Lampshade Facelift....

Do you have a wonderful lamp
that has just an ordinary Lampshade?

You can change that with some fabric and trim.

My friend Shelly had that exact problem.

Take a Look...

Nice Lamp..... Ordinary Lampshade...

It took about an hour.
What a face lift!

I searched my drapery fabric stash and came up with this combo.
I knew there was a reason I save all these small scraps.
Two different fabrics and three different trims,
gives this lamp a one of a kind look.

I love how the light shines through the fabric.

The loop trim finished off the lower edge of the shade.

Here's another one of shelly's "not so special" lampshades.

The lamp was really cute...
The lampshade not so much....

Here's another fabric and trim combo.

Take a closer look...

I delivered them to Shelly and she smiled!
She has a beautiful home.

It was the perfert touch
for the lampshade....

She had two of these lamps and I covered both lampshades.
Here's the other one....

I love the way it reflects in the set of mirrors....

Here's the other lamp,
sitting in it's new home.

Do I have you thinking
about changing any lamp shades in your house?

You can do it!

You'll be suprised how easy this can be
and the final result will give you a one of a kind look
 that you will LOVE.

I have enterered these one of a kind lampshades int the

The Other Lampshade....

I promised I would share with you the other lampshade I created for my friend. It goes in the the same room as the lampshade I shared with you in the previous post.  I decided to once again mix it with the check fabric, but I also made a pleated ruffle out of a coordinating stripe fabric.  When I did the valance for her cottage kitchen window I used two of these fabrics, so why not pair them up for the lampshade?
Here's the lampshade before I began...

Most of us have one of these plain shades around the house.  Why not dress it up a bit?  It's easy to do. I decided to leave the red fabric on the shade and just change every other section.

Now to make the ruffle.  I really didn't know what I was doing.  I just cut a piece of fabric about 3" wide and folded it in half (making it 1.5" wide).  Then I just began to hand pleat it.  No "rhyme or reason", and definitely not precise! That was the look I was going for.  Or at least that's what I'm telling you!

I lightly pressed the pleates to set them.

I got out my trusting glue gun
and glued it to the bottom ot the shade.
I know right now you are saying.
"What a Mess!"  Just wait for the trim.  It does get better.

I once again used three different styles of trim that all coordinated.

Ready.....Here it is.

I told you the trim would make it all come together.

I really liked how thepleated ruffle came out.
I'll have to try this on one of my shades.

I got and email from Pattie at Pandora's Box.  She had read my Step by Step Tutorial on covering a lampshade.  She was so excited after she read it, that she decided to try one of her lampshades.  It came out great, check it out HERE.  If you try a lampshade I would love to hear from you.  It always puts a big smile on my face when I inspire someone to try out a new project and then they share it with me.  I'll be linking up to the following creative sites....

More Lamp Shades...

I've been  busy with more lamp shades.  Last week at our couples bible study one of my friends asked if I could work some magic on two of her  "Plain Jane" lampshades.  She had some left over fabric from the window treatments that I made for her cottage.  She handed me the left over fabric and said, "do whatever you want, I trust you".  I don't know if I like when someone says that to me. I'm always worried that it won't be what they had envisioned.

Is this a "Plain Jane" shade or what?

I started with the fabric.  I just love this check fabric.

Here's a tip...
Use more than one style of trim.
It adds variety and a custom look.
I went to Hobby Lobby and selected three different styles of trim.

It's amazing how the trim really addes to the look.

Can you see how I used the trim
and layered it on top of each other?

I used the scallop trim around the top and bottom and then added the mingled colored braid on top ot the trim.

Later this week I'll share with you the other lampshade.  I'm going to try and and make my own pleated ruffle to added to the bottom of the shade.  Stop back, and I'll share it with you how I made it.  Linking up to the following creative sites.

A Little Trim A Lot of Bling!

It's  an exciting day today.  I'm the "Guest  Speaker Blogger"  over at It's So Very Cheri, "I followed the Tute".  I'd love for you to stop on over and read my tutorial.  It's all about the "How To's" on recovering a lampshade.  You can see the transformation, first hand.

Now for a quick and easy way to add a bit  of BLING to an ordinary lampshade.    We recently sold one of our lamps at the
Tea Party Castle so we needed to bring in a new lamp.  While my partner Sharon painted the lamp, my job was to give the plain lampshade a bit of glamour.  What better, than to add a variety of PINK trims to glam up the lampshade!

The first step was to remove the green bias trim.  Here's a trick.....
Use the steam from an iron to loosen up the glue that holds the bias tape onto the lampshade.  This will help to avoid ripping the shade while removing the bias tape.

It came off fairly easy.  I removed the bias tape
from the top and bottom.

I love this delicate pink rose floral trim.  I ran a bead of glue along the white bias tape at each corner of the lampshade.

Can you tell how much I use my glue gun?
the lampshade is already beginning to look better.

This is a totally Girly look....

Let's start adding the trim to the top of the lampshade...
Use the hot glue for this.
Just be careful not to burn your fingers.

Now we're on a roll.  Just need to dress up the bottom of the shade.

I really liked the texture of this eyelash trim.
It has tiny beads hanging for the trim.

Now for the reveal......  Ready?

Now let's turn on the light.....

Here's a close-up view of the trim...

The PINK trim adds such a delicate look...

This is such an easy way that you can give any ordinary lampshade in your house a  "one of a kind look".  It's inexpensive to do, and you will have the perfect lampshade that matches your decor.  Don't forget to stop by It's So Very Cheri.  If you enjoyed this post, I know you'll like my tutorial over there. I'll teach you how to totally recover a lampshade and make it a style all your own.
