Giveaway....I'm on the radio today!

I am so excited. 
 Later today I am going to be interviewed
 on the radio by Pat Sloan from Favecrafts.

It's a live interview so no SECOND CHANCES! 
 That's something to make you nervous about. 
 Thank goodness Pat emailed me with a list about what we will be talking about.  Favecrafts is a great website and I was so thrilled when they contacted me to ask if I would do the interview. 
 It was another one of the those moments when I did my
infamous "Happy Dance" around the house.

My teenage sons always look at me in disbelief!

So, what will we be talking about during the interview?
Let me share it with you....


I love having a candle burn in my house when I am home. 
 It's just one of those simple pleasures. 
 During the winter months I use the scent "Winter"
 Don't you just love their candles?

 Are you  thinking OK  what's so special about an ordinary candle?


 That's the point....
It's just plain ordinary.
So let's dress it up!


 Like I said, I love burning a candle
 but I really don't care for a plain candle with the wrapper on it. 

Remember my post about the plain kleenex box HERE? 
 Same problem...

I went to my stash of decorative papers,
and then scrounged through the ribbon bin
 looking for something special.
  Now a hunt through the buttons.... 
Actually this is an old earring from a garage sale find. 
 JUST PERFECT!


 Here's another one... 
This time I used some old wallpaper.


 Gotta love the leopard ribbon and big button.


You tell me....
Doesn't that look so much better?
It just made the ordinary candle look extra-ordinary!


I use the smaller size candle in the bathroom....


I purchase these buttons at Wallmart...


Here's at tip...

Don't glue the decorative paper to the candle.
  Just make a sleeve with the paper that slides over the candle to cover it.  When the candle is burned down and you through it away, remove the cover and place it on the new candle!


Looks so much better in the bathroom!

Make an Ordinary Candle EXTRA-Ordinary.


Do You Love Using Candles?
I love having a candle burning in the kitchen or bathroom.  I love how it adds ambiance to a room, and the scent that  fills the room as the candle burns.  What I do not like is this...
The  ORDINARY look of the candle with the label. 


I was having my bible study group over and I was adding a few finishing touches to my powder room re-do (I will share photos during a later post).   I decided to put out a few candles to add some twinkle, but did not like the look of the candle.   How could I change this?   With only  30 minutes before the group was scheduled to arrive, I quickly gathered some supplies and got to work. A few weeks ago, this button had caught my eye at Walmart.  I picked it up to put in my "Stash". 
Now I had the perfect reason to use it.



I searched through all my scrap booking paper and this was perfect to go with my decor.  I measured the  height  and the diameter of the candle. Using those measurements I cut a strip of paper.

I use a lot of buttons to embellish my projects and this is a great tool to use.  It's a button shank cutter.  You can find it at JoAnn Fabrics in the button section.  I used it to cut the shank off the button.


It was quick and easy....
I glued the paper around the candle and then glued on
 my "Walmart Treasure".


Like the transformation?


Here's the candle I made for the powder room. 
 It's the perfect finishing touch!

Adding to an Already Sweet Creation....

Isn't this just the sweetest creation.....



Dawn over at the Feathered Nest has some beautiful toutorials that can be purchased. When I got these from her I decided to add something to her original design.  I love taking a Wonderful Idea and adding a bit of my own flair to it.... Have you ever done that?  If you are someone who loves to create, I think  you know exactly what I am saying.  I wanted to share with you how I took  an  unique idea, and added just a bit of embellishment to it. 


I had added some crystal candlesticks to my pincushions which you can see HERE.  I liked the look and decided to add them to the fairy jars.  I added a wonderful button to just finish off the look.
Isn't she the sweetest thing.....




I would have never thought of making a Fairy Jar until I saw Dawn's tutorial on her blog.   Now with the few embellishments I have  a new look. Many of us do not come up with the original idea.  It's exciting to think of ways to take a unique and make it our own!  Thanks for visiting.  Stop by the following links to see many creative ideas.  I'll be posting this to...
