Is it a Bird's Nest or a Pincushion?

I recently had a request for a special order pincushion.  I always find it quite rewarding to do something out of the ordinary.
Here was the request from Shireen....  A pincushion that used a silver creamer or sugar bowl with a silver base.  She also liked grungy earthy textures and colors.  She suggested a moss velvet fabric for the pincushion.  Another request was for a nest with moss! I was up for the challenge.
Here's what I started with from the thrift store....

I purchased the sugar bowl, plate and glass candle holder all separate.  I then went on a hunt for the fabric, nest and other items to make this a "one of a kind creation".
So here's what I came up with........

I think I covered all the bases....

I embellished the pins with some wonderful buttons
from my "Stash".

Come closer...
 Can you see the detail?

I added some moss to the nest.

Recently, my girlfriend gave me a bag of vintage silverware.  This spoon was perfect for the project.  I embellished it with a button and a rhinestone for a bit of "BLING".

I used some vintage lace and added it to the brown bow
 (remember she wanted earthy colors).

A final touch was added to the bow.
A large pearl hat pin and a beautiful silver button.

I love the detail that the legs and arms of the creamer have.

It was a fun project and as I said, it was quite rewarding. I was happy with the final outcome.

Here's another one of my creations....  Last week I was blog hopping and came upon
A Stoll Thru Life.  As I visited a post HERE about a cloche party there was one of my pincushions.
How funny is that?  I had sold this on my Etsy and it was sent as a gift to Marty over at
A Stroll Thru Life

She had placed it under a cloche.  What a cleaver idea.

It's nice to get to see the things you create being displayed.  Many times when I pack the items I've sold I never know where they are going.  It was a pleasant surprise to get to see something I created
in it's new home!

I hope I've inspired you to take on a new challenge and try creating something that isn't ordinary.  You'll be surprised how enjoyable it is when you finish your one of a kind project.
Here are lots of wonderful creative places I'll be linking to.
Why not come along and visit?

  3. The nest pincushion turned out great, Sherry! I think you did cover all the bases. Thanks to you I am always on the look-out for pretty buttons to use as embellishments. While still small, I have created a little jar with my own "stash". I saw Marty's pincushion and think it's great she displayed it that way. They are too pretty ~ you have to show them off. I had wondered if it was one of yours.
