A Memo Board to Match Your Decor....

Welcome to DIY Day. I wanted to share with you a project I recently posted about. A year or so ago I saw this wonderful memo board at a local decorating store. The cost was $100.00. This was more money than I was willing to part with. I studied how it was put together and thought, "I can do that!" I found an inexpensive frame not the right finish, but I could easily change that. I love roosters , so I purchased a wonderful toile that has a rooster motif and a litlle checked fabric.
Once the frame was painted, I purchased a thin piece of plywood which I cut to the size of the opening of the frame. I covered the plywood with a thin batting and then covered the batting with the toile fabric. I made the bias tape with this little gadget which is a bias tape maker. You can purchase it at Joann Fabrics. It's easy to use and it comes out perfect every time. If you don't want to make bias tape you can use a coordinating ribbon. I added a little brass tack where the bias tape crosses over each other. It's that easy... I also made some beaded pins, using floral pins and some cute little charms.
I purchased these tiny frames at Michaels along with the ribbon to display a few family photos.
The wire edged ribbon works up to make a wonderful bow. I inserted a long floral pin through the back of the button shank and hung the frame on the memo board. These are my three favorite men! I thought these black and gold flower buttons were the perfect embellishment. This is an easy project. Just find a fabric you love and a frame and you will have a custom memo board to hold your treasures.

Wherever you go, go with all your heart.

  3. Hi Sherry:

Sorry we weren't able to connect today. I'll give a call tomorrow morning.

I have always loved this board in your kitchen....and I love your little desk area, too. Maybe someday I'll have one. It's one of the things on my "new house" wish list, along with a bigger appliance garage and a farmhouse sink :)

I miss you bunches and look forward to seeing you soon.

    Love,
    Amy

  4. Beautiful! I have a big memo board that is covered in pictures of my boys over the years. It isn't framed though and that makes such a difference.
